How to Find Super Saver Prices

Book 2-4 weeks ahead

Super Saver fares are released when booking opens and sell out quickly. Book early for the best prices.

Use calendar view

The DB calendar view shows prices for the whole month, making it easy to find the cheapest days.

Travel off-peak

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays often have better Super Saver availability than Fridays and Sundays.

Avoid rush hour

Early morning (6-9 AM) and evening (4-7 PM) trains are more expensive. Midday travel is often cheaper.

Check alternative routes

Sometimes a route via a different city has better Super Saver availability.

Set price alerts

Use third-party apps to get notified when Super Saver prices drop on your route.

The 20-Minute Rule

Important for all Saver fare travelers: If your train expects a delay of 20 minutes or more at your destination, you may immediately switch to other trains. The original train binding is automatically lifted in this case.

BahnCard Savings

With a BahnCard 25, you get an additional 25% off Super Saver prices. A BahnCard 50 gives you 50% off Flex fares. City ticket included on many routes for free local transport.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Super Saver fare?

The Super Saver fare is the cheapest ticket option from Deutsche Bahn, starting at low prices. It offers the lowest prices but comes with fixed train binding and is not cancellable or changeable.

What does train binding mean?

Train binding means your ticket is only valid for the specific connection (day, time, train number) printed on your ticket. This applies to Saver and Super Saver fares.

When is train binding lifted?

Train binding is automatically lifted when a delay of at least 20 minutes at your destination is expected. You can then use any other train on the route.

Can I take any train with a Flex fare ticket?

Yes, the Flex fare offers maximum freedom. You are not bound to a specific train and can use all trains on your booked route on the chosen travel day.

How do the cancellation terms differ?

Flex fares are usually free to cancel before the first day of validity. Saver fares require a €10 fee, while Super Saver fares are generally not cancellable at all.

How do I find Super Saver prices?

Super Saver fares are available when booking early (ideally 2-4 weeks ahead) and on off-peak times. Use the DB calendar view to find the cheapest days.
