Want to book a specific seat in the DB Navigator app — by the window, in the quiet zone, or with a table? Since 2026, the app shows an interactive seat map for ICE, IC, and many regional trains where you can tap your preferred seat directly. We walk you step-by-step through opening the coach order, opening the seat map, selecting a seat, and activating Comfort Check-in. As of 2026-06. App version 2026-06.
Note: The steps described here refer to the App version 2026-06. Deutsche Bahn updates the app regularly — if your screen looks different, please check whether an app update is available.
What is the seat map in the DB Navigator app?
The seat map is a graphical overview of the available seats in a specific wagon. It complements the coach order (which wagon stops where at the platform?) with the interior view: you see individual seats, aisles, tables, and reserved areas.
The seat map differs intentionally from classic seat reservation on bahn.de: in the app, you can see before booking whether a particular seat is still free, whether it is by the window, or belongs to the quiet zone. That shortens the search and avoids duplicate reservations.
Tip: If you only want to understand the reservation itself (cost, obligation, cancellation), see our page Seat Reservation. This page focuses on the app interface.
View coach order — step by step
The coach order helps you find the right wagon at the platform — especially at large stations like Munich, Frankfurt, or Berlin it saves several minutes of walking.
Search a connection
Enter origin, destination, and date. Pick the desired connection from the result list.
Open the connection
Tap the connection to open the detail view. There you see platform, stops, and train type.
Tap the coach order icon
In the detail view you find a wagon icon. Tap it to see the graphical coach order at the platform with sectors A/B/C/D.
Select a seat in the seat map
From the coach order, one more tap takes you to the seat map: a two-dimensional view of the wagon showing every seat.
Open the seat map
In the coach order, tap a wagon. You see the seat rows as a bird's-eye view.
Understand the seat icons
Available seats are light, reserved seats dark grey, selected seats blue. Window and aisle are indicated by small icons on the seat.
Tap and reserve a seat
Tap your preferred seat. The app shows the surcharge (e.g. 5.50 € for 2nd class ICE). Confirm with "Reserve" and pay as usual.
Check reservation in "My Journeys"
The reservation appears immediately under "My Journeys" with wagon and seat number. The app updates the reservation automatically when the train changes, if possible.
Activate Comfort Check-in
Holders of a BahnCard 100 or travellers in 1st class can use Comfort Check-in: you check in digitally, the conductor sees the ticket on his handheld device and does not check you physically.
Open connection and look for Comfort Check-in
Tap your booked connection. In the detail view you find (if eligible) the option "Comfort Check-in".
Confirm check-in
Tap "Check in now". The app confirms the Comfort Check-in and you no longer need to show the ticket on the train.
